Legislation Effective from October 2009 (Please read carefully to ensure your safety)

All limousines will be limited to carrying eight passengers regardless of the number of seats fitted, unless the vehicle has been issued with a Certificate Of Initial Fitness (COIF).

Just like a bus, for a limousine to carry more than eight passengers it must hold a COIF and be registered as a Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) and the operating company must hold a Public Service Operator's Licence.

The driver of these vehicles must be in possession of a PCV Licence for Hire or Reward.

Currently there are only two types of stretched limousine that can obtain a COIF.

1. Ford Excursion can legally carry thirteen (13) passengers when holding a COIF.
2. Hummer H2 can legally carry sixteen (16) passengers when holding a COIF.

To enable these two types to hold a COIF they have to be extensively modified at great expense. Please note that not all vehicles have been modified and therefore can not hold a COIF limiting the legal passenger carrying capacity to eight.

Remember to ask the operator if the limousine you are wanting to hire has a COIF, and if the company has an Operator's Licence.

It is your right to see the vehicles COIF and also to ask for the operator's licence number.

You will be surprised that less than 50% of limousines on the road are properly licenced.
